Fog Warning System collects and processes visibility data and automatically activates devices that warn drivers when visibility is reduced.
The components of the Fog Warning System are:
- A visibility sensor that collects the data using the forward scatter measurement principle to obtain accurate and reliable data. The visibility sensor control unit processes measured values and sends them to the Fog Warning Service.
- Variable message signs that display the speed limit and warning message;
- Yellow LED flashers (or studs built into safety guardrails). In conditions of reduced visibility, they enable drivers to follow the road and see the direction and geometry of bends. Up to 20 flashers are power-supplied and controlled from a single control box.
- Fog Warning Service constantly monitors and analyzes the values measured by the visibility sensor and, based on them, determines the safest speed for the current visibility conditions on the road. When it gets foggy on a section of road where a visibility sensor is installed, Fog Warning Service automatically determines the safest vehicle speed and, without involving an operator, activates all variable message signs and LED flashers.
Control Center is a software application that allows the user:
- – to see the locations of all signs, flashers, and sensors in the system on the map,
- – to have real-time information on visibility conditions on all road sections where visibility sensors are installed,
- – to monitor the hardware status of all devices in the system,
- – to download and save data on the frequency of fog occurrence at a given location, to see how many hours the fog lasts, etc.
The advantages of the DMV System
for automatic announcement of traffic events are:
- Improves traffic flow and reduces congestion and pollution
- Increases mobility and overall road safety
- Enhances response time to traffic incidents
- Reduces reliance on manual reporting
- Supports better decision-making for both drivers and traffic management authorities
