Vehicle activated signs (TRS-VAS) are used as a tool to reduce speed below the allowed speed limit. They can show current vehicle speed in combination with speed limit pictogram, smiley or angry face, and various warning or information messages in the language of your choice (SLOW DOWN, THANK YOU, number of penalty points, license plate, etc.). There might also be yellow flashers, blue/red police blinkers, or a white strobe light on the sign.
We have a whole range of different models and different sizes of pictograms and digits, but custom design according to the specific project’s or customers’ requirements is also possible:

Principle of operation
Vehicle-activated signs measure the speed of approaching vehicles and respond accordingly. Various models are available, but the general principle of operation is the same across them.
Usually, 2 or 3 triggering speeds (TS) are set in the sign. The number of triggering speeds, triggering speed values, and sign behaviour for each triggering speed are all adjustable using our user-friendly graphical interface.
Signs can retain a five-year calendar in their memory, allowing different operation modes to be defined for each day (working days, weekends, holidays…), over the next five years. For example, in school zones, whenever a vehicle is detected, the pictogram “children on the road” could be activated, but only on school working days and during school working hours.
Here is example of operation for one model:
Slow drive
VS<TS1
Normal drive
TS1<=VS<TS2
Over speeding
TS2<=VS<TS3
Violent drive
VS>=TS3
Traffic statistic
Each sign collects traffic data, which is illustrated in both our user-friendly web portal, “Control Center,” and PC/Tablet/Smartphone software, “Command Console”. Two radar statistics are available:
Hour-by-hour statistics, containing the following data for each hour:
- Total number of vehicles
- Total number of speeding vehicles
- The time of passing of the fastest vehicle
- The fastest vehicle speed
- Percentage of street occupancy
- Percentage of sign activity
- Vehicle speed distribution. Vehicles are sorted into different speed ranges (adjustable, up to 12 ranges, for example, 0-25km/h, 25-35km/h…125+km/h)

Vehicle-by-vehicle statistics, containing each detected vehicle
Show the exact vehicle detection time and vehicle speed. Those data are intended for future traffic analysis.

Violent driver alarm event
Upon detection of a violent driver (extreme speeding), the sign generates an “alarm event” that triggers the following actions:
- Send alarm message to the Cloud (if the sign is connected to the Cloud)
- Activate digital output. Outputs can be connected to traffic lights or other equipment to warn or regulate traffic. The most common use of digital output is to forcibly turn on a red traffic light in front of the sign for a longer period (2 minutes or so), so that a violent driver must wait at the traffic light. For that purpose, wireless transmitters and receivers are also available, so there is no need for a cable connection between the sign and the traffic light.
- Log event in the memory, with exact time and vehicle speed. This data can be useful in combination with a video surveillance system.
Command Console – for connecting with the sign on site
Command Console is an Android- or Windows-based application for PC, Tablet, or smartphone. The software is for operators who are directly connected to the device over RS232, Ethernet, or Bluetooth, handling only one device at a time. From the Command Console, users can adjust the sign’s functionality, collect traffic statistics from the sign, and verify its proper operation.
The app can be downloaded from the App Store or delivered free of charge.
Control Center – web portal for controlling the signs remotely
Control Center is a web-based portal for monitoring and controlling vehicle-activated signs and collecting traffic statistics. The user needs to log in from any ordinary browser.
There is no need to install any additional software on his computer. After logging in, you will be presented with a friendly, intuitive page featuring a geographical map with all signs in their exact locations.
