The Road Weather Station provides reliable, timely information on weather conditions and road surface conditions along a specific road section.
The system measures visibility, wind speed and direction, precipitation type and intensity, air temperature and humidity, and road surface conditions (dry, wet, icy, snow-covered, etc.).
The primary purpose of Road Weather Station is deployment on road sections with frequent and significant weather changes that may reduce traffic safety and pose risks to people and property.
The Road Weather Station consists of:
- DMV data logger with communication modules, installed in a protective cabinet mounted on a support pole,
- sensors for measuring atmospheric conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure, precipitation, wind, etc.),
- visibility sensor (optional),
- road surface condition sensor (passive or active, with one or multiple probes),
- additional meteorological and agrometeorological sensors in accordance with project requirements.
The System’s Intelligent Core
At the core of the system is the DMV data logger, which collects, processes, and stores data from multiple meteorological sensors.
The data logger enables integration of sensors from different manufacturers, ensuring flexibility in equipment selection and adaptation to specific project requirements.
Collected data is processed within the DMV data logger and can then be:
- transmitted to the responsible Control Center
- integrated into an existing ITS (Intelligent Transport System) using standard industry communication protocols or open communication protocols,
- integrated into existing weather stations or other monitoring systems,
- transferred to the user’s local information system, or
- accessed locally by connecting a computer, tablet, or mobile device via Ethernet or WiFi.
The DMV data logger can also be supplied as a standalone component for integration into existing systems or already installed weather stations, enabling system upgrades and extended functionality without replacing the entire equipment.
Depending on user needs and site characteristics, different types and combinations of sensors from various manufacturers can be applied, with the DMV data logger ensuring compatibility and reliable data processing.
In addition to traffic infrastructure, the weather station can be used in agriculture (monitoring microclimate conditions, irrigation planning, frost protection), energy (management of wind and solar power plants), water management, environmental protection, and risk and emergency management systems.
